My wife and I have amassed a fairly significant cadre of books on fostering, adoption, and parenting hurt/abused children over the last 5 years.
The Explosive Child is one of the most helpful books I've read to date.
What books have you found helpful in understanding your child? Which books have you found unhelpful?

What to Do When You Worry Too Much: A Kid's Guide to Overcoming Anxiety by Dawn Huebner
This is a great book for kids who need help with anxiety. My 10 year old greatly benefited from the techniques.
I've added the book to the kid's book roster.
I like Dr. Keck's books. They are objective and full of useufull information.
Abny good kids books out there?
One book, that I can't recommend at all, is When Love is Not Enough: A Guide to Parenting Children with RAD. The techniques, in some cases, seemed to be borderline abusive and certainly not nurturing. The book looks at extreme cases and then applies absolutes on how circumstances should be approached by the parent.
I found it troubling.
Explosive child is number 1 by far. Using the strategies in this book we have learned how to deal with temper tantrums better. Not always perfect, but better.
If you do read The Explosive Child be open to the fact that what you are currently doing doesn't work with your child. If it did why are you reading that book? You'll think that you're letting your child get away with something by using it's method. Your child won't think so.
If I was a Foster Family Agency I would hand one of these books out to each of my families. I think I've pumped this one up enough. Just get it.
