Ever had this conversation?

Dad, "Turn out your light please."

Kid, "My light is out."

Dad, "No it isn't. I saw it on just a minute ago."

Kid, "My curtains are open."

Dad, "Yes, but your light is on too. Please go turn it off."

Kid, "My light isn't on, its sun."

Dad, "Please just turn out your light."

a few minutes later...

Dad, "Please put on your boots."

Kid, "No, I don't want to wear boots. I want to wear slippers."

Dad, "There is a foot of snow outside, please find your boots."

Kid, "My boots don't fit."

Dad, "Your boots fit fine. Please put on your boots."

Kid, "I don't know where my boots are. I want to wear slippers."

Dad, "There is too much snow outside and it is 0 degrees F outside."

Kid, "I'll wear crocks."

Dad, "You HAVE to wear boots. At very least sneakers. Where are your sneakers?"

Kid, "I don't know."

Dad, "I think they are in your backpack. Put on your shoes please."

I have SO many of these conversations...

Sounds Familiar

Yep, I think every parent on the face of the planet has had similar conversations. The difference is that a larger percentage of conversations sound like this when you've adopted a kid who has been through the wringer before they came to you.

Patience is the virtue on this.
